JANSEN'S OF NUTTERDEN, GERMANY/BROOKLYN, NEW YORK AND RELATED FAMILIES
Note: Surname List: Names without dates might denote they are still living FAMILY HISTORY Antonious Jansen was a gentleman farmer who settled in Nutterden, Germany located near the Dutch border; a unique area formed during the ice age between two rivers and known as The Duffelt.
Anton's son, Gerardus, and his grandson Johannis farmed this fertile land. Johannis' son Henry, didn't want to farm so while in the Germany Navy he jumped ship and took a freighter to New York. Henry was the first to immigrate to the USA, followed by his older brother Gerhard and last was their sister Maria(Mary).
Henry married Elizabeth Eichenauer of Lauterbach, Germany in Brooklyn.
Gerhard married Elizabeth Nessel in Germany and Maria married Vincent Vogt.
Their brother Martin stayed in Germany married Elizabeth's sister Wilhelmina Nessel and settled in Essen, Germany.
Henry and Elizabeth were my great grandparents. Their children were: George, John, Josephine, Bernard and Joseph Jansen.
George married Anna Margaret Kissling, John married Theresa Schoenfelder, Josephine married (John) Harold Swanstrom, Bernard married Frances Kemether and Joseph married Emma Klees.
Gerhard's Family History... My cousin, Rt. Rev. Msgr. Francis Jansen and son of Gerhard Jansen compiled a family history of his family with hand painted lettering and paintings done by his artist brother, Joseph Jansen. His neice Mary Campbell, Brentwood, New York, now has it in her possession for safe keeping.
Family Reunions.. We have had approximately 3 official Jansen Family Reunions: 1999 in New York and 2000 & 2004 in Ohio. The next one will again be in Kinsman, Ohio in 2008. Contact: Francine Amy
