  John was born in Staithes, North Yorkshire and came from a long line of fishermen. His father brought the family to Darlington, County Durham where later, John and his brother, Addison, both had fish stalls on Darlington market.

  My Gt-Gt Grandparents are to the left hand side of the photo. George was a journeyman engine fitter like his father before him. George's grandfather, Cuthbert Ellison, was a Wherryman at Derwenthaugh near Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
