James Family Migration, England / Wales to Dorchester Co. MdUpdated May 22, 2012 | Barry Irvin James 4131 W. Toluca Lake Avenue Burbank,Ca. 91505 United States 925 759-1973 [email protected] |
I currently have 'trees' growing with 2-James family clans, which to date, are unconnected. My James family stems from Dorchester Co., Md. and the infamous Jesse & Frank James family picks up in Stafford Co., Virginia, a distance of just 50-miles as the crow flies. My most elder James is that of my G.G.G. Grandmother James, b. 1797 in Baltimore, husband listed as deceased and unknown.I flurish from that of her son, Daniel James, his son, Thomas Edward James, buried in Manchester, Md. with a curious tombstone epitaph: "Remember this as you pass by, as you are now so once was I.As I am now you soon will be, so now prepare to follow me.", his son, Maurice David James, then my father, Robert Walter James. The James family had a history in the 1800's of woring in the Bachman Valley, Maryland.I have a photograph of that period that seems to indicate some of the James Family working on the farm of perhaps John Yost. An interesting observation while doing my researc finds that David James, my G.G. Grandfather, worked for the B&O Railroad. My Grandfather Maurice too worked briefly on the Railroad; and my father worked for the Western Maryland Railroad, which became CSX. Other names in my family search:Good (of Lancaster, Pa.); the Riffles; and the Lawrences. Our Good family appears to have immigrated from Switzerland by way of Philadelphia, and purchased land from the estate of William Penn. The Riffles come from European Alps; and the Lawrence Family lives primarily in the McSherrystown/Irish Town region of Pennsylvania by way of Ireland. Anyone who can contribute to this rich family is welcome to e-mail me at [email protected] am delight to share any and all genealogy information. |
