Updated December 1, 2008

Since this home page was first created in the year 2000, We have added many features and additional names through our research. We hope you enjoy it.

Please note that the original purpose of this home page was an attempt to solve a Family Mystery that has eluded hours of research for many years. That being to find the Parents of Colonel William James, Born in Johnstone, Scotland on November 21, 1805. Married Kathryn Cowan Sinclair, of the Orkney lands, on June 20, 1824 in Lanarkshire Barony Parish Scotland.

William, the father of Alfred E., Frederic Sinclair, Edward A., Jannet V., William Jr., Flora C. and Gavin James. Other children, which died in Childhood, were Sarah, Isabella, Elizabeth and Maria. The William James Family was an extremely prominent family in Chicago, Illinois during the 1850's through late 1870's. His Sons, Alfred and Frederic were founders of Companies still respected in the Insurance Industry today. The Colonel was the Provost Marshall in Cook County, Illinois during the Civil War as well being appointed to the Board of Fire Commissioners and eventually becoming the Police Commissioner of Chicago in 1870.

Much history and ancestry is known of William James' and his descendents, especially since he immigrated to North Adams, Mass. in 1833. However, none is known prior to his birth in Scotland except that his father was the Manager of the Monteith Cotton Mills in Glasgow.

Other prominent names in our Family Tree are Estes, Keller, Stokes, Russell, Winders, Willmarth and Blyth.

Any information concerning descendents and/or ancestors of Colonel William James will be very appreciated. Of course, any information of any kind regardless of the names is welcomed.
