1. WILLIAM¹ MABE was born 1690 in England, and died 1742. He married (1) ELIZABETH UNKNOWN. He married (2) ELIZABETH UNKNOWN. She was born 1717 in Cornwall, England, and died Aft. 1772.

William Mabe was born in Bristow, Herefordshire, England about 1690. He came to America as a bonded passenger in 1720. William received a land grant of 204 acres on February 1, 1738 from King George II of Great Brittain. The land was located in Hanover County, Virginia. In order to keep the land, William had to improve at least five acres per year.

William was married to Elizabeth from Cornwall, England. They had five sons: John, Charles, Robert, Phillip and William. Each of the five sons is mentioned in William's will which was probated in 1762. The will was actually dated December 13, 1756. William gave each of the sons forty acres of land.

John, the eldest, is listed as the seller in three separate land transactions between 1763 and 1771. Those transactions totaled 172 acres of the other original 204. The last sell included acreage and the plantation home. It is thought this land belonged to Charles because his signature was required for the transaction.

Not long after 1771, John and Robert (possibly Charles as well), left Virginia and settled in what is now Stokes County, NC. At the time the land was in Rowan or Surry County. Following the will, there is no mention of either William or Phillip.
