My grandfather was Samuel JARVIS, born Samuel WINTERS in Kenton Co. KY on Jan. 5, 1856. His mother was Elizabeth J. SARE or SAIR, b. Covington KY Feb 18, 1829, died Nov. 11, 1915 in McComb MS. Samuel's natural father was John WINTER(s) (abt. 1825 - abt 1860). Samuel and his siblings' step-father was C. Christopher (C.C.)JARVIS, b. Nov. 24, 1832 in VA, died Apr. 3, 1923 in McComb MS; pioneer railroader with the ICRR, and mayor of McComb City from 1896-1899. Samuel's brother, Frank, was born in KY in Apr 1859 and died in McComb MS in 1939. A sister, Clara or Clair, b. in KY Nov 14, 1850, d. Oct. 2, 1880, McComb MS; married George WILLIAMS, b. Eng.
C.C., Samuel, and Frank were engineers with the Illinois Central, the New Orleans & Mobile, and the San Francisco & St. Louis railways. The family lived in Rock Island, Il; New Orleans; McComb, MS; and Memphis, TN.
