Notes for William De Jeanne:
Guido de Jeanne was a French general in the service of the French Confeder ation In 1154 he was assigned to escort Henry the second to England a nd to secure Henry on the throne. For this service Guido de Jeanne was kni ghted by Henry and given the manor of Kirkling in Cambridge shire.

Guido's grandson, Geoffrey de Jeanne, took up arms about 1200 or 1204 wi th Baldwin, count of Flanders, in a successful effort to obtain Jerusal em and contributed to install Baldwin king of Jerusalem. Geoffrey later ma de three pilgrimages to the Holy Land with his son Guy, or Guido. Hence t he scallop shells in the coat of arms, which commemorate those events. Bef ore his death Geoffrey acquired the lands of Botalock in Cornwall throu gh his wife the heiress of Sir Richard Penruddock.

A descendant was Henry de Jeanne, alleged by some genealogists to be a gra duate of Oxford University and a lecturer there on Theology and Divinit y. However, researcher Milton Bush on a Genealogy.com message board refut es this and I quote "Henry de Jeanne did not attend Oxford. I wrote to t he Oxford Library on that, and reviewed the whole Oxford alumni series (ab out 20 volumes). He did not matriculate there under any of the possible na me spellings, and did not lecture there. Neither did an ancestor, nor chil d. Dear Beniah Gustin Jayne just made it up about 120 years ago. He may ha ve intended it as a joke, or as a test who would rely on secondary materia ls."

According to notes in the Genealogy Section of the Suffolk County Historic al Society in Riverhead, New York, the father of Henry1 Jayne was Rodger J ayne. No further info found yet.
