The FARMER line I am researching does NOT come from New England; rather, from Virginia through North Carolina to Tennessee. Other branches went to South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, California, and other parts.
They are often long-lived and prolific. My FARMER grandmother, youngest of thirteen, just died at age nearly 102; her father was born in 1834 and fought in the Civil War as a Captain, Co., H, 3rd TN CAV, USA. He was captured by Gen Nathan Bedford Forrest in AL, and spent time in Cahaba Prison. Although he lived until 1910, many of his brothers and cousins died, either in Cahaba, Andersonville, or on the "S.S. Sultana" disaster on the Mississippi on 27 April, 1865. He never quite recovered from that event. He inherited the family farm instead of his younger brother, James, who had died on the Sultana.

This branch of the Farmers goes back to Thomas Farmer, Ancient Planter, who emigrated from England in 1616 to Jamestown. Many were Quakers, often distinguished, and often successful at what they tried to do. Mathematics and music ran, and runs, through the family.

I'm also researching: the family of Reverend Joseph Houston GREENE, who's buried at Clark's Grove Presbyterian Church cemetery, Blount Co., TN. His son is my grandfather. Where was he born? Where did his wife, Cordelia BURNETTE, d 1929, come from? She's buried next to him. His second wife, also named Cordelia - I know little about her except her personality. Help is appreciated, folks.
