2. JOHN2 WHITE ("FATHER"1) was born Abt. 1781 in Maryland, and died Bet. 1855 - 1860 in Nathan, Arkansas. He married MARTHA C. MITCHELL Bef. 1803. She was born Abt. 1785, and died December 1859.

Notes for J
OHN WHITE:
John White, Martha Mitchell White, and their children, migrated from Tennessee to the Nathan community of Pike County, Arkansas, in 1829.

John White Sr. built the pioneer home now located across from the Inn in Old Washington State Park, Arkansas, known as the George W. Peck House (White-Bowers House, C. 1840). This well built home was moved to Washington from Nathan, Arkansas, and restored by the Pioneer Washington Foundation with a generous gift by Mr. George W. Peck. It is fairly small but typical for a nice house of the 1840's. It has two chimneys, one in the front room and one in the back (kitchen) room. It has no stairs but a ladder for access to the loft, where the teen-aged children remaining at home no doubt slept. Windows are covered with functional shutters. The exterior is covered with white clapboard siding and the roof is made of wooden shingles.
