Notes for Warren LeRoy Davis: He was born in the Pickins District of South Carolina but moved with his family prior to 1861 to the Winnsboro, Texas Area. In his late thirties and still unmarried, he drove a herd of cattle to the railhead in Abilene, Kansas. While there, he met a professional dressmaker named Mary Jane Carroll, a spinster in her late thirties. LeRoy spent the next few years courting Miss Carroll. In 1897 they were married and he brought her back to Sulphur Springs, Texas. Mary Jane was not happy in Texas. She missed the bright lights and the social life of Abilene. So in 1902, they moved back to Abilene where they raised a son and three daughters. LeRoy Davis' body was buried in Kansas in 1914, but his heart never really left TEXAS.
