With regard to this younger Samuel Denny's wife, Elizabeth, I now believe that she was a daughter of John Wade and Elizabeth Dawson. (As I stated, I cannot prove it at this point, but circumstantially, the evidence appears to point strongly in that direction.) Some of the evidence follows:
At least two Wade family researchers show Elizabeth as a daughter of this couple without any reference to Samuel Denny (or relying upon Samuel Denny's dealings with John Wade).
Some of the circumstantial evidence is based on the given names that William Denny (son of this younger Samuel Denny and Margaret Scott, daughter of John Scott) used for their children. One son was named John Wade Scott Denney. If I'm correct, then this John Wade Scott Denney, b 1809 was named for both his mother, Margaret Scott and his maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Wade. This same William & Margaret Denny named a son Dawson Denney, b 1808. If my tentative layout for this line is correct; Dawson would be named for his paternal great grandmother, Elizabeth Dawson, wife of John Wade. I also note that this William & Margaret Denny named their first son Benoni Denney (a very unusual given name), b 1806. However, the given name Benoni shows up often in the Dawson family lines, beginning in 1742, and I note that he was also the first son for a Thomas Wade.
In terms of this Samuel Denny's dealings with John Wade: Samuel Denny was a bondsman for the will of John Wade on 2 July 1787 in Amherst County, VA-this makes perfect sense if Samuel was John Wade's son-in-law. (The obvious weakness in this argument is that Samuel's wife, Elizabeth Wade was not named in John Wade's will. Perhaps she and Samuel had already received their allotment of John Wade's estate, prior to his demise--see below.) Note also the following transaction: Amherst County, Virginia, Deed Book D, Pages 245 and 248: On 07 March 1775, John Wade of Amherst County sold the 80 acres on which he lived, which was partly on Butlers Ridge, to Samuel Denny (his son-in-law as I tentatively have the family laid out). He also sold 50 acres to James Cull (a proven son-in-law) on the same day. Note also that in 1789, Samuel and Elizabeth sold 70 acres (probably of this land) to Wm. Burnett and most importantly, Elizabeth was questioned on this land sale. When a wife is! questioned on a property sale, it generally means she has some primary interest in the property. If this land were previously owned by her father, then I believe it would explain why she was being quizzed on the sale of a portion of it...Depending upon the deal they got on this land, this may also explain why Elizabeth received nothing further in John Wade's will. Does anyone have the sales price on the 1775 sale? If it's a discounted price from the normal land prices, it would further support this theory. Finally, note also that James Cull's wife Mary Wade, was also not mentioned in John Wade's will. If he got the same deal in 1775, again that would account for his wife Mary not being mentioned.
Per my research on the Wade family lines, Pearce Wade and Elizabeth Wade, wife of this younger Samuel Denny were first cousins with a common ancestor, James Wade, (b ca 1665 in New Kent County, VA) and wife Margaret. At least one of James' children appears to have been born in York County, VA as well. If I'm correct in my tentative layout for Elizabeth Wade's ancestry (Samuel Denny's wife?), her great grandfather was an Edward Wade, b ca 1640; d before 1682 in York County, VA. This Edward had dealings with a Christopher Denny in York County, VA: In 1643, Christopher Denny assigned his land lease in York County to Edward Wade. Also, per "Virginia Colonial Abstracts, York County, 1646-1648": p. 195 Chr. Deny to Edw. Wade 1600 lb. tobacco. 9 Oct 1646. This obviously could well be coincidence only, since it occurred about 60 years prior to Elizabeth Wade's birth.
