Sarah's mother was named Mary. Mary Antrim later married William Matthews and so he became Sarah's stepfather. William and Mary Matthews had about 5 children. The only son was named William Matthews, Jr. This William Jr. wrote of his trips into NC, PA and "over the mountains". He visited a Richard Ankrom who was not a Quaker. William said his parents were not Quakers when they married but soon became Quakers and the girls all married Quakers and were active in the church. William Jr. visited Thomas and Sarah Beales when he went to Guilford Co. NC.
William Matthews Sr.'s will left a horse to his "daughter-in-law Sarah Ankrom. They had lived in Stafford Co.VA but he may have moved to Prince George or Carroll Co. where he died.

Actually, there is reason to believe that Sarah's name was Ankrum or Ancram, rather than Antrim. She was the daughter of Richard Ankrum and wife Mary Ashman of Charles and Prince Georges Co., Md. After Richard's death, Mary married William Matthews, Sr., and became the mother of several children who were well-known Friends.
We have two bits of evidence about Sarah. The first is the will of William Matthews in Prince Georges Co. in 1739. In it he names his "daughter-in-law" Sarah Ancram. At this time, daughter-in-law was used interchangeably with stepdaughter. The other bit is the will of William Matthews, Jr., son of William and Mary (Ashman) Ankrum Matthews, made in York Co., Pa., in 1790 and probated in 1792. In it he left ten pounds to "my sister Sarah Bails." Sarah would be, of course, his half-sister.
I'm descended from Thomas Beals's brother John Beals (1717-1796), so I haven't pursued Sarah's ancestry myself. I obtained this information from Opal Lousin of Northbrook, Ill.
