I found a used book which has this about Pietro: "The first known Italian settler was Pieter Caesare Alberti. He arrived in June, 1635, as a sailor on the ship de Coninck David (The King David), as we know from his suit in 1639 for back wages. The ship's commander, David Pietersz de Vries, had patroonships in New Netherland and published his journal in 1655, so one may read of this voyage and other early events here. Pieter was a Venetian, born on the Isle of Malamocco. As early as 1639 he contracted for a tobacco plantation and a house, and received patents in 1643-7 for about 100 acres on Brooklyn's East River shore. Orphanmasters' records dealing with his children imply that the parents were killed in the Indian raid of 1655. The Dutch used names for their original purpose--that of identification--hence as the local residents thought of him, he is entered on the records, even formal patents: Cicero Alberto, Italian Pieter Cecer alias Mallemock Peter Petro Alberto, from Venice Peter Italian, son-in-law of the late Jan Manje Pieter the Italian Peter Caesar, Italian Caesar Albertus Cicero Piere. He is the ancestor of the Alburtus and Burtis families." pages 165-6 from The Century Book of the Long Island Historical Society ed. by Walton H.
