Lylls of Toreagh

Of several Lyll families in County Antrim, Ireland, was one having residence at Toreagh. Tradition relates this family traces to Ayrshire in Scotland and came to Ireland about 1606. The location and date are suggestive it was one of those Scotch families settling on lands of Sir Randal Macdonnell in the vicinity of Larne. Through marriages the Lylls of Toreagh became connected with the Lyles of Browndodd and the Blairs of Ballyvallagh.
John Lyll was a son of the Scotch progenitor of the Toreagh family. He was born about 1615 and near 1640 married Florence Montgomery.

Children of JOHN LYLL and FLORENCE MONTGOMERY are:

	i.	JANE² LYLE, b. 1642.
2.	ii.	THOMAS LYLE, b. 1643, Toreagh, Co Antrim; d. 1729, Belfast, Co Down, Manor of Downpatrick.
3.	iii.	JAMES LYLE, b. 1645, Toreagh, Co Antrim; d. 1723, Topped Cairn Farm, Antrim.
4.	iv.	DAVID LYLE, b. 1648.
