I am researching several families spread throughout the southern United States -- particularly Kentucky, Virginia and Georgia, but also North and South Carolina. The names include Jenkins, Claxon, Garner, Pritchard, Bush, Rhoads, Nusz, Aud, Birkhead, Coomes, Bayne, Lasley, Milton, Witherington, Burkett, Bamberg, Lord, Bond, Miller, Moore, and many others. All southern research, it seems, eventually leads to Civil War research. The book below is a timeline and roster for a Kentucky Union regiment, the 15th Kentucky Volunteers.I began researching the history of the Fifteenth Kentucky when I discovered that my ggggrandfather, Aaron Smith Bayne, who was killed at the Battle of Stones River, was a captain in the unit.Anyone who finds an ancestor's name in the roster, please contact me.I'm completing research on a book on the 15th.I'd be glad to fill in any descendants on the history of the unit, and I am always interested in learning about more 15th Kentucky soldiers who left letters, diaries, journals, or photos. |
