Using information gathered from cemetery records, census forms, birth and death certificates and the help of new found friends and family. I’ve been able to piece together that:
My Great-grandfather was Richard John Jenkyn(s), born in England, Dec. 1860, immigrated to Pennsylvania 1884, listed in the 1900 Census as a Blacksmith residing at 423 South Gown Street, Shamokin (Note: 1915 listing, Jenkins, Richard J, laborer, 8 N Marshall Street). According to the same census he was married to Annie Prudence Bartel for 15 years, putting their date of marriage at 1885 +/- 1year. Annie was Born in England, Feb 1867, immigrated to Pennsylvania 1872. By 1900 Annie and Richard had three children. The oldest was their daughter Mamie, born July 1885, William was the middle child and oldest son, born in Nov. 1888. The youngest son was my Grandfather, Thomas Henry Jenkyn, born Dec. 3, 1894.
Thomas Henry Jenkyn married (date unk) my Grandmother, Olive Williams. Olive was the daughter of John W. Williams, Born in Wales, May 1864, immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1866, he is listed in the 1900 Census as a Miner residing at 1464 Oneida Street, Shamokin. According to the same census he was married to Anne Cawthern for 12 years, putting the date of marriage at 1888 +/- 1 year. Anne was born in Pennsylvania, Dec. 1866 or 1887 (it was written over when recorded on the census). She was the mother of five children, four were still living as of 1900. (1) James was the oldest and only son. He was born in Dec. 1888. (2) Cora, the oldest daughter was born in Nov. 1890. (3) My Grandmother, Olive, was born Feb 11, 1895. (4) Hazel, the youngest was born in July 1899.
According to the 1900 Census, it lists the children's father's place of birth as England, the same as for Anne's father. It is either a mistake or John was not the father of the children born to Anne while they were married. Also listed at their address during the census was, Mattie Carlston, a 22-year-old female servant. Mattie and her father are listed as born in Iowa. Her mother is recorded as born in Pa. Thomas Henry Jenkyn and Olive gave birth to five known children. (1) Donald Thomas Jenkyn, born Sep. 23, 1915, who later married Margaret, Donald died June 21, 1996, she in April 1996, they had one daughter, Donna. (2) Faye A., who later married Kimberly Savidge, they had two sons, Thomas and Robert. (3) William, who graduated from Shamokin HS in 1939 and is believed to have been killed in WWII. (4) Laura A. L., who later married Robert Barni, had a daughter Barbara and a son Robert. (5) My father, James Robert, born April 14, 1918, who married Evelyn Lorraine John. James died in March 1966.
James and Lorraine (as she preferred) lived in Shamokin and had two children, Janice, married to Dennis Campbell and currently living in Hilton Head, S.C., from Lorraine's previous marriage and Thomas Oliver, born, Feb 22, 1951 and currently living Calhoun County, Alabama. Thomas was married to Carol Rusnock on Dec. 3, 1974. They have two children, a son, Joseph Thomas, born, June 23, 1979, in Oil City, Pa, and a daughter, Christine Elizabeth, born, Nov. 17, 1981, at Fort Benning, Ga.
That's how it is today, tomorrow newer information may change things.
