41-Year-Old Woman Dies After Choking

LANE--A rural Lane woman died early Sunday morning after choking on a piece of steak while eating at her home.

Mrs. Dorothy June Johnston, 41, was dead on arrival at Miami County Hospital, despite first aid efforts of her husband, Norman.

Services for her were held Tuesday in Eddy-Birchard Chapel in Osawatomie.

A daughter of Frank and Blanche Farrar Weatherbie, she was born April 27, 1935 in Garnett. As a child, she moved to the Lane area where she attended school, graduating from Lane High School in 1953.

IN NOVEMEBER of 1953, she was married to James Watson in Osawatomie. They were parents of three children. On July 5, 1964, was married to Norman Lee Johnston in Pasa Robles, Calif. Three children were born to them.

Mrs. Johnston worked at Osawatomie State Hospital after graduating from high school. In recent years, she worked at the J.C. Penney Store in Osawatomie and for the past year had been employed at the Ben Franklin Store in Osawatomie.

BESIDES HER HUSBAND, survivors include five sons, Steve Watson, Richmond, and Daniel Johnston, Rick Watson, Bryan Johnston and Aaron Johnston, all of the home; three daughters, Carol Watson and Mary Johnston of the home, and Mashelle Johnston of Rantoul; her mother, Mrs. Blanche Weatherbie of Lane; her grandparents; Mr. and Mrs. W.I. Farrar, Greeley; one brother, Ronald Weatherbie, Rantoul; and four sister, Mrs. Alice Kraus, Lane, Mrs. Hazel Phillips of Osawatomie, Mrs. Jane Clark of California, and Mrs. Diana Miller of Greeley.

The Rev. June Worden officiated at services. Music was provided by Mrs. Ida Phares at the organ. Pallbearers were Dean Register, Bill Waggoner, Richard Lucas, Bill Reeves, Pat McDaniels and C.R. Cottrell.
