I am searching for ancestors and descendants of Thomas MAGUE (pr. muh-GYEW), born June 9, 1813 in Ireland and died March 20, 1899 in West Boylston, MA (Source: Death Certificate, West Boylston, MA). Arriving in America, it is believed that Thomas MAGUE and other MAGUE family members may have settled in northern Massachusetts or southern New Hampshire.
Is there a connection between Thomas MAGUE (1813-99) and these individuals?
James MAGUE - b. New Hampshire c. 1826 John MAGUE - b. New Hampshire c. 1829 Harriette MAGUE - b. New Hampshire c. 1831 Catharine MAGUE - b. New Hampshire c. 1838 These individuals, presumably siblings, were all living in Worcester, MA with a Mr. and Mrs. John Wight during the 1850 Federal Census.
In approximately 1841, Thomas MAGUE married Laura Anne CAMPBELL (1818-1897) in Lunenburg, MA. He ran a bakery in Woonsocket, RI until about 1851, when he moved with his family to East Brooklyn (Danielson), CT. About 1865, they moved to Providence. In the mid-1870s they moved to West Boylston, MA, where Thomas remained until his death in 1899.
Thomas and Laura Campbell MAGUE had the following children:
Norman Campbell MAGUE - b. 6/19/1843, Mendon, MA; d. 6/4/1901, Plainfield, NJ. Mary Campbell MAGUE - b. 9/20/1844, Mendon, MA; d. ? Henry T. I am also interested in obtaining information on Lizette PURINGTON, who married Norman Campbell MAGUE in the late 1860's.
LIZETTE (or LIZETTA, LIZZETTA, LUSETTA) was born in Providence, RI on Oct. 13, 1845 and died in Plainfield, NJ on April 19, 1904 (Source: Death Certificate, Plainfield, NJ).
Family records suggest that Lizette was the daughter of Joseph PURINGTON and Sarah WOOD, who were married in Killingly, CT on August 18, 1844. (Sarah is believed to have later divorced Joseph and retained her maiden name, WOOD).
Lizette's family are believed to have been Quakers, which may account for why there is no civil record of her birth in Providence.
In some vital records, Lizette's maiden name is given as WOOD.
Norman and Lizette Purington MAGUE had the following children:
George Charlton MAGUE II - b. 10/8/1869, Providence, RI; d. ? Female (stillborn twin) - b+d 10/31/1869, Providence, RI. Walter Norman MAGUE - b. 11/10/1870, Providence, RI; d. 9/4/1896, Plainfield, NJ. Lilla Belle MAGUE - b. c. 1875; d. c. 1887. Clara "Bessie" Estelle MAGUE - b. 2/21/1877, Providence, RI; d. 6/27/1941, South Plainfield, NJ. William Ellsworth MAGUE - b. 11/20/1881, W. Boylston, MA; d. 1941. Francis Milton MAGUE - b. 10/1/1883 (maybe 1882), MA; d. 2/1/1920, Plainfield, NJ. Harry Norman MAGUE - b. 12/18/1893, Plainfield, NJ; d. 3/2/1981.
Francis Milton MAGUE was my mother's father. He was born in Massachusetts October 1, 1883, possibly 1882. I need the city or town to obtain a birth certificate.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
