Mr. Jean Melvin Joy, 80, of Paw Creek died Wednesday, May 21, 1997, at Carolinas Medical Center following an automobile accident.
Funeral service will be 11 A.M. Saturday, May 24, 1997, at Hankins & Whittington Chapel.Officiating will be Dr. John Earl, II. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 P.M. Friday at Hankins & Whittington.
Mr. Joy was born June 20, 1916, in Mount Holly, NC. He was educated at Berryhill and Paw Creek Schools. He was a lifetime member of Paw Creek Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of Long Creek Masonic Lodge 205.
He was son of the late Oscar Franklin and Iva Roseman Joy. Mr. Joy served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was stationed in the South Pacific. Upon his return home, he worked as a carpenter for Ervin Construction Co. A short time later, he went to work for Crown Petroleum Corp. in Paw Creek, where he retired after many years as a loading clerk.
Mr. Joy is survived by his wife, Mrs. Florine Love Joy; his daughter, Donna Johnson and husband, Harry, of Charlotte; son, Douglas M. Joy of Charlotte; three grandchildren, HollyJohnson, Lauren Johnson and Andrew Johnson of Charlotte; sisters, May Joy Midgett, Ruth Joy Weaver and Doris Joy Sisk, all of Charlotte; and brothers, Oscar Joy of Ocean Isle, NC, Billy Joy, Charles Joy and Donald Joy, all of Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, William Torrence Joy, Loyd Bayne Joy, James Frank Joy, and sisters, Laura Joy Outz and Helen Joy Reames.
