Witness:Jas. A. Cathey and Tom A. Cathey
(Note:Executor Thomas H. Brem was the son of Henry's sister Eva Hoover and her husband, Jacob Brem.Like Henry Hoover, he resided in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.)
On 8 February 1875, a payment was recorded to the Mecklenburg County estate of David Leander Love. The payment was made by T. H. Brem from the estate of Henry Hoover, as stipulated in the last will and testament of Henry Hoover.
Note: There was another Henry Hoover in Lincoln County who died in 1824 and left a will naming a wife - Mary Eliza - and five children. Some researchers list this Henry Hoover as the son of H. Thomas Hoover. However, the 1833 will of H. Thomas Hoover names son Henry as an heir, so son Henry is not the same Henry who died in 1824.
Also, see the notes for Mariah Barbara Warlick concerning the disposal of her land among her heirs for further proof that Henry Hoover, her son, did not die in 1824.
(Note: The Mecklenburg County death certificate for Francis Marion Hoover names his father as Henry Hoover, and gives his father's place of birth as Lincoln Co., NC)
Regarding the name "Henry Honvae Honvat" which appears in some genealogies: A typed transcription of the last will and testament of Henry Houser (York District, SC Will Book G:78) was executed and microfilmed for the South Carolina Archives. This transcription of the last will and testament was an interpretation of the original by a transcriber. The transcriber, in being unable to discern the spelling of the name of the son-in-law in article six of the will inserted the text "I will and bequeath to my son-in-law Henry Honvae (Honvat)..."The original document contains the following: "my son-in-law Henry Houver."The name "Henry Hoover" appears in a list of those persons purchasing items at the estate sale.
In addition, the last will and testament of Christina Howser (York Co., SC Will Book 3, pp 368.Case #34 File #1457), wife of Henry Houser, names in Item 2 her daughter Mary Hoover.
The name of the husband of Mary Houser, daughter of Henry Howser and Christina Heavner is Henry Hoover, not Henry Honvae or Henry Honvat, as incorrectly transcribed.

The following article appeared in The Charlotte Observer beside the above obituary: MAY SOON SELECT SITE FOR PAW CREEK SCHOOL Citizens There Growing Impatient Over Delay of Decision, Declares Matthews The location of a site upon which to build the new high school at Paw Creek, toward the erection of which the township recently voted $12,000 bonds, has not yet been definitely determined, it was announced yesterday. The decision has been pending since March 4, when members of the county school board went to Paw Creek, following the March meeting at the county courthouse, and inspected several probable sites. The House, Henderson and Sandifer sites were visited on that occasion. It was learned yesterday that a most desireable site for the proposed new school would probably be offered by the Thrift Manufacturing company, which site has the advantage of accessibility and is well shaded by beautiful trees.Accomodations for obtaining good drinking water also are claimed to be an advantage in the site near the Thrift mills. Superintendent J. M. Matthews and W. J. Hutchison went Thursday afternoon to Paw Creek for the purpose of inspecting a new site, that of the Hoover estate. That there is a strong probability of locating the new school on the old site was an opinion ventured by Superintendent Matthews yesterday, and he added that the people of the community are growing impatient over the delay. He said he thought the decision would not be delayed longer than the first of the coming week.Superintendent Matthews stated that he is personally in favor of reaching an immediate decision. He is known to have favored action sometime ago, believing that the work of erecting the new school should now be well under way. At least five acres of ground will be needed, Superintendent Matthews stated, upon which to erect the proposed high school.A portion of this will be converted into a playground. If a decision is not reached before Monday, Superintendent Matthews said he thinks it will assuredly be determined by the county school board at the next regular meeting, which will be held April 1 at the courthouse. |
