OSCAR FRANKLIN JOY, SR
Oscar Franklin Joy, Sr., 76 of Route 6, Thrift Rd., passed away Wednesday, April 15, 1959, in a local hospital. Mr. Joy was born March 7, 1883, in Gaston County, son of the late Sidney and Emma Joy. He lived in Charlotte for the past 40 years and was a member of Paw Creek Presbyterian Church. Before his retirement, he was a building contractor. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Iva Roseman Joy; four daughters, Mrs. Jarvis Midgett, Mrs. Robert Cox, Mrs. Robert Lamb and Mrs. Eddie Reames Jr. of Charlotte; six sons, J. Frank, Jean M., Billy A., Charles M., Donald E., and O. F. Joy, Jr. of Charlotte; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Abernathey (sic) of Belmont and Mrs. Lexie Fisher of Charlotte, and 28 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 o'clock this afternoon from the Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, by the Rev. J. Edward Craig, his pastor. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Paul McCord, Blair Cathey, Ralph Wingate, Hugh Cherry, Morrison Yandle and Ross Summerville. Honorary pallbearers will be P. W. Davenport, E. L. Reames, Sr., G. E. Todd, A. S. Cathey, H. E. Lewis, Robert Summerville, J. R. Wingate, C. M. Saddler, E. W. Campbell, Ted Campbell, Harvey Bassett, Scott Lowe, Blair Cox, and Clarence Cox. The body will lie in state at the church from 3 until 4 P.M. today. Hankins-Whittington Funeral Directors are in charge of the arrangements.

Iva lived in Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home in her old age - she probably had Alzheimer disease. Family members were told at time of her death that Iva wasn't ill, that her body had just "worn out." Daughters Ruth and Doris remember that she was a very hard working person.

Mrs. Iva Roseman Joy, age 94, of 6237 Freedom Drive (Charlotte), died Saturday, February 19, 1983 at the Oaks Nursing Center in Huntersville. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, February 21, 1983 at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Gary Bryant, her Minister and the Rev. Mack Armstrong of the Covenant United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Lawn Cemetery. The grandsons will serve as active and honorary pallbearers. Mrs. Joy was born January 19, 1889 in Alexander County, NC, to the late William and Laura Patterson Roseman. She was a member of the Paw Creek Presbyterian Church. She is survived by five sons; Billy A. Joy of Andrews, NC, Charles M. Joy, O. F. Joy, Jr., Jean M. Joy and Don E. Joy, all of Charlotte; four daughters. Mrs. May Midgett, Mrs. Ruth Weaver, Mrs. Doris Sisk, Mrs. Helen Reames, all of Charlotte; 33 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. JAMES FRANK JOY
James Frank Joy, age 59, of Rt. 6, Thrift Rd., died Jan. 16, 1970 at Myrtle Beach, S.C. The funeral will be at 4:30 P.M. Sunday at the Paw Creek Presbyterian Church with the minister, the Rev. Robert J. James, officiating. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ralph Wingate, Harry Lee Cathey, David French, Morrison Yandle, Hugh Cherry and David Reames. The remains will lie in state at the church for 30 minutes before the service. Mr. Joy was born April 27, 1910 in Gaston County, son of Mrs. Iva L. Roseman Joy of Paw Creek and the late Oscar F. Joy. He had lived in the Paw Creek community for most of his life where he was reared and educated. He was retired from Humble Oil Co., where he was employed for 20 years, and was a member of the Paw Creek Presbyterian Church. Survivors are his wife, Elmira Carpenter Joy; four sons, James Ronnie Joy of Charlotte, Tommy A. Joy and Stephen C. Joy of Paw Creek, Ted F. Joy of the home; three daughters, the Misses M. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is 7 to 8:30 tonight at Hankins, Whittington & Williams-Dearborn Funeral Home.
Mrs. Joy was a native of Anson County, where she had attended local schools. She was a former cook for Servomation Vending Corp.

May E. Midgett, 87, of Charlotte, died Sunday, August 22, 1999 at Presbyterian Hospital. Born January 21, 1912 in Mt. Holly, Mrs. Midgett was a daughter of the late Oscar and Iva Roseman Joy. She was a homemaker and a member of Paw Creek Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Midgett is survived by her husband Jarvis Midgett; daughter Shirley Faile of Charlotte; three sons Kenneth Eugene Yerton and wife Joan of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, Rodney Leon Yerton and wife Marie of Charlotte and James L. Midgett of Charlotte. She is also survived by four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers and two sisters.

Services for Roy Perry Outz, 68, wil be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hankins and Whittington Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Outz, of 4300 Rubine St., died Sunday at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. He was an automobile salesman and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was also a member of American Legion Post 380, a life member of Voriture No. 793, and a life member of the Patriotic Order of the Sons of America.
Surviving are his wife, Lora; three sons, Perry C. of Woodruff, S.C., and Mickey and Mack, both of Charlotte; two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Gardner of Mint Hill and Mrs. Catherine Daugherty of Charlotte; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson of Power Springs, Ga.; and nine grandchildren.

While in the Northwest Service Command during World War II, I was stationed in the Yukon Territory of Canada and in 1944 I met my wife Lillian Cust, a Canadian of French and Irish descent.
We have five children; Martha Anne is married to Michael D. Casper living in Louisville, KY., Theresa Jolene married to Larry Edward Hartsell living in Mooresville, NC.
Richard Franklin, Russell Lee and John Allen all living in Charlotte, NC.
We have eight grandchildren, four boys and four girls. Two of the boys being identical twins born to our oldest daughter Martha.

Mr. Billy Allen Joy, 79, formerly of 2128 Newhart Rd., died February 18, 2003 at Britthaven of Charlotte. He was a native of Mecklenburg Co., son of the late Oscar Franklin and Iva Roseman Joy; was preceded in death by five brothers, Frank, Oscar, Jr., Jean, Torrence, and Bain Joy; 3 sisters, Laura Outz, Helen Reames, and May Midgett, and two step daughters Violet Matney and Joyce Hicks. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he received the American Theatre Service Medal, the EAME Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. He was a retired carpenter and former employee of Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife Desree Vinson Joy; a son Billy Joy, Jr. and wife Kathy of Charlotte, a step son James Yarborough, Jr. of Edenton, NC, a step daughter Pansy Bennett and husband Wade of Charlotte, two brothers, Charles and Don Joy both of Charlotte, 2 sisters Ruth Weaver and Doris Sisk both of Charlotte, and 2 grandchildren, Deana and David Joy.
Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Steve McCameron will be held 3:00 PM Friday in the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mt. Holly. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 - 3 PM Friday.

Mrs. Helen Joy Reames, 62, of Charlotte died April 24, 1993, at Presbyterian Hospital. Funeral is 2 P.M. Monday at Covenant United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 6 P.M. today at Hankins & Whittington Funeral Home.
Mrs. Reames, a Charlotte native, retired as a BB&T loan officer after 30 years. She also retired as a Mecklenburg County ABC Board clerk after six years. At her church, she was a choir member.
Survivors are her son, Joe Reames; daughter, Mrs. Amy Lovelace of Tryon; brothers, O. F. Joy of Ocean Isle Beach, Bill Joy, Charles Joy, Jean Joy, Don Joy; sisters, Mrs. May Midgett, Mrs. Ruth Weaver, Mrs. Doris Sisk; one grandchild.

Reames, Eddie Lyfayette (sic)
Eddie Lyfayette (sic) Reames, Jr., 69, of Charlotte died Sunday, October 28, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital. Graveside service for Mr. Reames will be held Tuesday, October 30, at 11 a.m. in Paw Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Reverend Gary Bryant officiating.
Mr. Reames was born in Mecklenburg Co. May 1, 1932 son of the late Eddie Lyfayette (sic) Reames Sr. and Maude Hoover Reames. Eddie was a graduate of Paw Creek High School and was employed with Southern Bell as a supervisor for 35 years. He was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Survivors include his son, Eddie Joe Reames, Sr., and his wife, Dorothy of Charlotte; daughter, Amy Reames and her fiance Eric Stimm of Green Creek, NC; brother, J.D. Reames and his wife Linda of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Eddie Joe Reames, Jr., and Ethan, Ian and Eli Reames; niece, Alisa Mullis; nephew, David Reames.
A daughter Suzanne Reames also predeceased Mr. Reames in 1986.
Memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Crippled and Burned Children c/o Oasis Temple of the Shrine, 604 Daniel Burnham Way, Charlotte, North Carolina 28213.
