Archal Willie Boule (b. 22 Feb 1882, d. 31 Dec 1938)

Archal Willie Boule (son of Charles Boule and Emilie Louise Mailloux)¹⁶ was born 22 Feb 1882 in Detroit, Wayne, MI¹⁷, and died 31 Dec 1938 in Portland, Multnomah, OR. He married Charlotte Elizabeth Hanna on 21 Feb 1904 in Boyd, Wasco, OR, daughter of William Albert Hanna and Elsie Jane Lewis.

There has been confusion over Arch's name. When his brother Harvey named his son Archibald (after his uncle), Arch told him his name was not Archibald and it wasn't William; he was Willie.

The church records show he was baptized Guillaume Achille in the Roman Catholic faith.

The family moved to Oregon in 1888 at age 6. Arch spoke only French and was taught English by the teachers at his Catholic school. The family name at the time was Bulley or Bully.

Where did Arch and Lottie meet? We can surmise that they met as he came through with his freight team and wagons. The Chicken Springs ranch was a place to change horses for the freighters. Elsie Hanna owned that ranch. It was only later that Arch worked on the ranch. (This according to Velma Boule Dunn, 1997)

The young couple took up a homestead above the Deschutes River in Eastern Wasco County. After about two years, they sold that and bought the Chicken Springs ranch, 12 miles from Dufer on Tygh Ridge. They lived there, farming, from 1911 or 12 to 1919. They then moved--keeping the ranch property-- to Dufer so the children could go to school. After farming for years, they sold the land and moved to a chicken ranch in Gaston, Oregon. From there they bought an apartment house in Portland.
