There is a picture we may have somewhere labeled "Grandma Waters." This is the
lady. She is buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery at Millersburg, 4 mi. from Aledo,
Illinois. America Waters Dunn is buried beside her mother.

She was a widow 30 yrs. (She was 15 yrs. younger than her husband). She
went to Illinois with daughter America, her oldest daughter.

Alice Waters Hamilton is quoted in Dale Hamilton's notes that "Grandma Waters loved her pipe, but she could not indulge when with her daughter, but when she came to visit Alice, she begged a cigar from Link, which she smoked with much satisfaction."

Date for marriage ( 30 Dec. 1824) comes from book C, p. 30, Brown County

OBITUARY from Aledo Record found in the Aledo, IL Library:

"Margaret McLee Waters was born June 13, 1807, in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. She moved with her parents at an early age to Brown County, Ohio, and was married there to James Waters in 1825 (sic). She remained there until 1850 when she and her husband moved to Illinois. In four years they moved back to Brown County where Mr. Waters died in the fall of 1864. There were born to them ten children, five of whom with the father preceded the wife and mother to the better land. Mrs. Waters remained in Ohio until seven years ago (1889) when she came to Illinois to make her home with her daughter and son-in-law Henry Dunn. She moved with them to Elrick, Iowa, where she died January 12, 1896, at the advanced age of eighty-eight years, seven months. In her early life she was converted and has always lived an earnest Christian life, and at her death was a member of the Christian Church at Russellsville, Ohio.

The body was brought to this city on the dolly Tuesday morning accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dunn, Mr. and Mrs. A. Bridges and Chester Dunn (grandson) of Elrick, Iowa; and Mrs. Neva McFarlan (granddaughter)and Mrs. Edith Liddle (great-granddaughter) of Gilbert's Station, Iowa. Funeral services were conducted from the home of L.E. Butler at 10:30 Tuesday Morning by Rev. A.M. Stocking. Afterwards the remains were taken to the Millersburg Cemetery, which is the family burial ground, for interment."
