Gurta Christina Funk, daughter of Christian and Julia Funk was born October 17, 1879, one mile west of Corning, Kans. Where she has resided all her life with the exception of two and a one-half years spent in California and ten years on a farm southwest of Corning.She passed away at the home of her oldest daughter, Mrs. John Miller, in Seneca, April 6, 1945 at the age of 65 years, five months and 20 days.
She was united in marriage to William Broadbent of Corning, Kansas on December 16, 1903 and to this union seven children were born.One daughter, Muriel, preceded her in death at the age of sixyears.
She leaves to mourn the husband of the home,; four daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Miller, Seneca,; Mrs. Edwina Johnson and Mrs. Veda Wells, Topeka; Mrs.Donna Shepherd, Junction City; two sons Allison Broadbent, Topeka and Marvin Broadbent, Corning.Sixteen grandchildren; one brother, Charles B. Funk, Bellflower, California and one sister, Mrs. Frank Page, Long Beach, Calif.
She was united with the Methodist church in Corning in 1892, remaining a member throughout her lifetime.She was a devoted wife and mother, her family was always uppermost in her thoughts.Tireless in her efforts in doing for others with never a thought for herself, she was a good true neighbor and friend.She was a lovable character, well educated and informed on current topics and enjoyed discussing subjects of interest. She will be greatly missed in her community.She was buried on the birthday anniversary of the little daughter, Muriel, who preceded her.
Funeral services were held April 9, 1945 at 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon in the Methodist Church in Corning, the Rev. C. Z.Allsbury, pastor, conducting.The quartet Mrs. Frank Hannum, Mrs. Frank Steele, Mrs. Willis Dabner, and Miss Bertha Snodgrass with Miss Jessie Randel, accompanist, sang "Rock of Ages,""Abide With Me," and "Shall We Gather At The River."
Pallbearers were Ollie Wilcox, Fred Fredrickson, Will Hilbert, Bide Allen, Ira Payne, Rollie Cox.
Burial was made in the Corning cemetery.
Those from a distance to attend the funeral were: Mrs. Frank D. Page, Long Beach, Calif,; Charles B. Funk, Bellflower, Calif.; Henry Broadbent, Atchison; Mr. And Mrs. Newlove, Abilene, Kansas; Paul A. Wells, RN 3-c from the west coast.
