This Family page has been created to try to find and communicate with our family around the world, so that we can enter them in our "FAMILY TREE" for future generations to share. My husband’s side of the family (JOHNSTON) is mainly from Scotland, USA & Canada and my side (BOTHAM) are mainly from England and Ireland, although to my delight we have found a Scottish connection. Below are just some of the family names we are looking for.
JOHNSTON. FORSYTH. CURRIE. McDOUGALL. CASKIE. McDEARMID. PEARSON.
BOTHAM. FLINT. WETTON, SPRAKE. HORE. REDMOND. WILSON.
Ian and I were both born in Derbyshire, in England, and we were married in Whitley Bay also in England on 30th August 1966, we then sailed out to Australia three months later in November 1966 on the ship “Castel Felice”. When we first arrived we had two years in Melbourne, arriving in a heat wave, just in time for Christmas, a very different experience for us. Two years later we went to live and work in Papua New Guinea and were there for about eight years, also a very different and wonderful experience. Our time travelling and working all around PNG was the best time of our lives, an adventure in paradise. When our daughter Nicole was eighteen months old in 1974, we returned to Australia to live in Brisbane, another beautiful place, we can certainly pick the best places to live. We also had two years in Mt Isa, at the top of Queensland, an "Outback" paradise indeed! and now that we are retired, we live in beautiful Tasmania, the little Island at the bottom of Australia which is very much like Scotland and has temperatures almost the same sometimes.
Since the age of seventeen, I, Jennifer, worked as a hairdresser, I had two hairdressing salons of my own in Brisbane which I sold a number of years ago. My husband Ian joined the Merchant Navy at the age of sixteen and a half, and was at sea for almost five years. He then left the navy and joined the English Police Force. When we came to Australia he joined the Police here and later on was Officer in Charge of the Queensland Mounted Police until he retired in 2002; our daughter Nicole is also a Police Officer, now in the Mounties, doing general duties, parades and escorts etc just like her dad. She and her husband, also an Ian, had a beautiful baby boy on 2 May 2004, named Callum Alister Linton. The Alister is after her Dad, Ian Alister Johnston.
While I have been trying to find new branches and twigs for our "TREE" on the internet, I have found quite a few members of Ian's family in the USA & Canada (FORSYTH’s & CURRIE’s) we have shared some excellent information on our families, by email and snail mail. We hope one day to all get together for a reunion. I have recently found some members of my father’s side of the family too, (BOTHAM & FLINT) which was very exciting for me. I have also found (or they found me, through this web site) some of the relatives on my Mothers side of the family and I hope that will be very fruitful too...
We hope to find a lot more family members, or just help someone else to do the same. Please feel free to contact us if you think we can help each other with our search for more twigs and branches, even a few leaves will do! Check out the links below to see our Family Reports. Just click on the "coloured underlined numbers" to see each generation. The information has been "Privatized" to protect the family members who are still alive, but if you would like information on these members, please email me and I will try to help as much as I can. Also check out our family photos, you just might see someone who looks like you?
Nice talking to you all, and happy hunting. Kind regards, Jenny (nee Botham) & Ian Johnston.
