My GGgrandfather, R. D. Purcell, with two of his daughters, Jennie Elizabeth Purcell Beauchamp and Zilpah Leah Purcell, taken in front of the Purcell home near Old Mac, Taylor County, Kentucky about 1912. The family came to Taylor County from Larue County around 1902 and bought the farm that had once belonged to Elisha Roarks. The old log house pictured in the background was probably built by Roarks. The house consisted of one large log "pen", partitioned inside into a small hallway with rooms on either side. A "dogtrot" on the rear of the house connected it to a kitchen. The end of the main house, to the left in this picture, had a massive stone chimney. This house burned many years ago.
