My GGGgrandfather, William M. 'Bill' Stillwell was born ca. 1827, probably in Hardin or Green Co., Kentucky. He was the son of Stephen Stillwell and Matilda Skaggs. Bill was married first to Nancy Elmore, daughter of Jeremiah Elmore and Margaret McCume / McCown. Nancy is my ancestor. After Nancy's death, Bill remarried to Mary Allen, daughter of Elijah Allen and Sarah Pickerell. It is a popular tale in the family that William killed the last bear that was ever killed in Larue County. His first wife is buried at Levelwoods Methodist Church Cemetery but Bill was reportedly buried on his farm. He didn't have a tombstone but a small shedlike roof was built over his grave on posts.
