Notes for Chief Priest of Ephraim Sicambri:
MISC: Chief Prince de Ephriam
MISC: first ruler of Sicambrians
Cimmerians were a nomadic people who moved about the Pontic Steppes. Cimmerians, having risen first in Mesopotamia, migrated across the Median Plateau of Iran into Central Asia where they lived many centuries. Some archaeologists divide Cimmerians into a Western (Thracian-Sumerian) and Eastern (Kizil-Koba Colchis) group. Using this division, archaeologists begin to get "more accurate" dates going back to ca 2000 BC.
Cimmerians are the earliest known inhabitants of the Crimea. Strabo writes: "Cimmerians once possessed great power in the Bosporus and that is why it is called the Cimmerian Bosporus." The name Crimea is derived from Cimmeria. (Southern Ukraine, Black Sea shore.) Cimmerians, whose name appears in the Odyssey of Homer, occupied the Ukrainian steppe.
