Notes for Jacob Smith:
Jacob Smith who on his father's Revolutionary War pension application is listed as living in Gilman County, GA.It is very likely that the Smith's came to Gilmer/Fannin Co., Georgia from Iredell Co., N.C.
Records of Iredell Co. was destroyed due to a fire of the court house burning all records prior to 1850 Except the census of 1810 in some parts of the county.

Census of 1850 in Gilmer Co., Georgia-shows Jacob Smith was a Blacksmith. b. in N.C. m. to Elizabeth both are age 65 yrs. They are living with his son George W. Smith and his wife Mary.

Census of 1870 shows family in Fannin Co., Georgia. In the home with Jacob and Elizabeth is Violet age 35 and possibly Violet's daughter Caroline age 17, with the last name Smith. They are both showing as Black. Violet is showing with education.
In the home with them are Nancy Smith, Lucy Smith and Pierce Smith. These children belong to Jacob's son Henry E. Smith, whose wife, Rutha Adeline Holdsclaw-Smith (sister to George W. Smith's wife Mary Holdsclaw-Smith) has died prior to 1870.
Census of 1880 in Fannin Co., Georgia shows Elizabeth living and with her are Barbary and Matilda. She shows they are her stepdaughters. Jacob is not in the home. It is beleived he passed away bet 1870 and bef. 1880 in Fannin Co., Georgia.
