Although no record has been found to date of Patrick Mullin's first marriage, it is recorded that Jervis often spoke of his nephews - one of them was the same age as himself. This nephew, a half-brother's son, enlisted the same time that Jervis did, in 1811 and embarked for Canada with the same regiment.
When Margaret (Sargent) Mullin died, Patrick Mullin married a third time, and young Jervis was brought up by his stepmother. She taught him to repeat the 'Lord's Prayer' in the Gaelic - and Jervis remembered it all his life.
