================================================================================================================ 30 years ago, I started tracing my Service family background. This all stemmed from being asked whether I was related to Robert Service the great Canadian poet. I quickly found that the answer was no. While Robert Service was born in the country area between Scotland and England, I have found no link that would make Service a Scottish name. Indeed, not an English native name either. The only link that seems positive is the Servis name came from what is now Germany and originally may have come from Serbia. Please see other note on bulletin board re derivation.
