Antoine Belliveau, the founder of this Acadian family, is believed to have come from La Chaussée in Poitou, France. He settled at Port-Royal around 1645 where he married the widow Andrée Guyon. At the time of the deportation, the Belliv eaus counted four generations in Acadia. It is said that Charles Belliveau was put aboard a ship sailing for New England by the British. During the journey he and five other Acadian prisoners seized the ship from the British. was in th e 1686 census.
