Researching Pennsylvania, Indiana, Arkansas, Wisconsin, and Illinois roots. Surnames include: Dreibelbis, Merkel, Embich, Hughes, Winder/Winders, Shindel, von Schindel, Vogt, Corel, Netzley, Hartzell, Enck, Johnston, Self, Krug, and Laird, as well as many others.

The head of the Hughes family in Illinois was B.W.(Bushrod Washington) Hughes, who came to DuPage County Illinois from Schuylkill County Pennsylvania in 1857 and farmed 210 acres in the Copenhagen area of Naperville township. B.W. was the father of 14 children by two wifes (1) Maria Merlin and (2) Sarah Shindel. He was a Naperville Town Supervisor in 1861-1862, and again in 1867.

The Vogt family came to the Lisle area about 1842. They immigrated from Gerstheim, Alsace, France. There were 11 children in the family, including my great-great grandmother, Caroline Vogt. Caroline's mother was killed in a tornado in 1845, and her father, George, drowned in Naperville in 1848.

Caroline Vogt married Jacob Corel in 1853, and they had several children: Philip who married Lettie Netzley, Elizabeth who married Rufus Netzley, George who married Addie Lesher, William who married Barbara, Caroline who married Bushrod W. Hughes, Jr. (my G-grandfather), and Ida, who never married.

Willing to share/trade information. Have a great deal to share, and a great deal still to learn. Contact me at my E-Mail address.
