In April 1900 Neva Kate Carmichael went to Cowles Station, AL to teach music to Hazel Brockway, Niece of Seth Johnson. She was recomended for the job
by her cousin, Cora McGlothren, who was Hazel's governess.

Notes for Seth Johnson:
Seth Johnson was a diversified farmer, raised cotton, corn, cattle,
and timber and owned about 6700 acres of land in Montgomery, Elmore
and Macon Counties in Alabama. He started farming at Milstead, Alabama
when he arrived from Iowa in 1888 and moved to Montgomery in
December 1901. He was the administrator of the Estate of his father who died intestate. He joined the nearby Calebee Presbyterian Church at La Place in 1898. He was a partner with his brother Dave and Deal Lumber Co. in a venture that built a toll bridge over the Tallapoosa River to replace Ware's Ferry in 1916; was active in organization of Union Stock Yards of Montgomery and promoting the Alabama Farm Bureau. He served for many years as Chief Inspector for the Voting Poll and as cordinator for the United Appeal in his Beat. After moving from Milstead he joined the First Presbyterian Church of Montgomery.
