4. ALEXANDER2 ROSS (JOHN "MERCHANT"1) was born Abt. 1789 in Stornaway, Isle of Lewis, Scotland, and died Bet. 1871 - 1881 in Little Narrows, Cape Breton. He married MARY MACKAY. She was born Abt. 1790 in Stornaway, Isle of Lewis, Scotland, and died Abt. 1864 in Little Narrows, Cape Breton.

LEXANDER ROSS:
Alexander Ross was born in 1789 in Stornaway, Isle of Lewis, he married Mary MacKay also born in Stornaway. In 1820 they emigrated from Scotland and landed at St. Anns, Cape Breton. They initially settled near Baddeck but moved to a land grant at Little Narrows sometime after 1827.Alexander and Mary had nine children.
Alexander started operating a ferry service at Little Narrows, first towing a raft across with a row boat, then using a cable system. The Ross family operated the ferry there until it was taken over by the Nova Scotia government. John Ross died at age 67 from streptococcal infection caused by a splinter in his hand.
