William Ross (son of John Ross and Flora Ann MacLeod)23 was born April 15, 1881 in Peters Brook, Cape Breton, and died July 07, 1966 in Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He married (1) Christine MacLeod on December 22, 1904 in St. Anns, Cape Breton. He married (2) Gwendolyn Went.

" Willie was born on April 15, 1882, the son of John and Flora (MacLeod) Ross, Peters Brook. He enlisted on March 16, 1916, in Sydney, Cape Breton. He served in Canada, Britain and France with the 185th Battalion, Canadian Expiditionary Force, Cape Breton Highlanders, #16 Platoon. Lance Corporal Ross was discharged on January 8, 1919, in Halifax. He was predeceased by his first wife Christine MacLeod, Ingonish. They were the parents of six sons who served in World War II. His second wife was Gwendolyn Went. They resided in North Gut. He died on July 7, 1966, and is buried in Harbourview Cemetery, South Haven."
