Notes for James Scott:
James was a planter. He was a Captain in the Revolutionary War.
He purchased 700 acres of land from John Nash in Prince Edward County 10 November 1761, Deed Book 1, page 154, at Farmington. In 1763, he purchased land in Prince Edward County from George Walton Of Lunenburg County, Deed Book 2, page 176. This land became the home of Capt. James Scott and his wife Frances. It was located on Mountain Creek between Haskins plantation and the road that leads to Moore's Ordinary. It was located near the border of Lunenburg County.
He sold "twenty acres of land in Prince Edward County being part of the tract of land where said James Scott now lives on Mountain Creek," to Thomas Haskins, 15 February 1773, Deed Book 5, pg. 38 at Farmington, Prince Edward Co, VA He sold the remaining 829 acres of his residential property to John Fox of Gloucester County, VA on 18 November 1776, Deed Book 6, p. 121, at Farmington. He deeded 391 acres of land lying in Prince Edward Co. on Fort creek to his son-in-law Reuben Coleman, 26 September 1776, witnesses Francis Scott, Samuel McGehee, and Henry Young.
Although over 50 years of age at the beginning of the Revolution, James Scott served the cause of American Independence as a Captain in the Revolutionary army, in VA and later in SC. He removed from Prince Edward Co, VA to Abbeville District, SC where he died after the Revolution.
From letter to Mr. W. O. N. Scott from F. C. Ainsworth, Adjutant General, 15 March 1909:
The records show that one James Scott was Captain of a company designated as Captain James Scott's Virginia Volunteer Company, in service in the Revolutionary WAr. His name appears only on two pay rolls of the company embracing the period from 14 February to 29 April 1777, which show that he was in service 75 days. Nothing has been found of record to show that the company of which he was captain formed a part of any regiment.

12 Oct 1732 John JOHNS was one of several men ordered to clear the road from
the Forest of Needwood to Normon's Ferry.
8 Aug 1740 Jack, a Negro boy belonging to John JOHNS adjudged to be 11 years
old.
Feb 1741/42 On the petition of John Sutton, it's ordered that John JOHNS, Samuel
NORMET and Jacob JOHNS view and value the improvements made by the
petitioner on a tract of land containing 175 acres in this county for which he has
lately obtained a patent.
1742 John JOHNS is on several jury panels.
8 Mar 1744/45 John JOHNS, Samuel NORMENT, Titus Hurt, and John Sutton
ordered to divide the estate of Richard TURNER.
10 June 1748 John JOHNS a witness to the will of Lewis TURNER. Also ordered to
appraise the estate of Lewis TURNER along with several others, one of which
was Samuel NORMAN
13 Aug 1752 LWT of John JOHNS presented by Betty JOHNS, executrix, proved by
Edmund Pendleton, Gent, James MURRAY, and Jacob JOHNS, witness
thereto. Executrix with William Dudley and James TURNER, her securities,
acknowledge a bond.
14 Dec 1752 Inventory and appraisal of estate of John JOHNS returned.
9 Aug 1753 William RICHERSON is appointed guardian to John, Elizabeth, Micajah,
and Jane JOHNS, orphans of John JOHNS, who with Thomas RICHARDSON
and William NORMENT acknowledge bond.
9 Sept 1756 William RICHERSON returned an account against the estate of John
JOHNS.
14 Sept 1758 William RICHERSON returned an account against the orphans of
JOHN JOHNS
23 Sept 1760 On the motion of Thomas RICHERSON, Jr. who married one of the
daughters of John JOHNS, it's ordered William Bowler, Jeremiah Rawlins, John
Baynham, and John Taylor, Jr. divide the slaves and personal estate of JOHNS
among his children according to his will.
1760 John JOHNS is an executor or admin. for the estate of Thomas RICHERSON.
