EV. HOSEA JOHNSON:
Copied from "The History of Hardin County, Ohio 1883"; Reproduced by: Unigraphic Inc., 4400 Jackson Ave., Evansville, Indiana, 47715; 1973.

Hosea Johnson, farmer, P. O. Kenton, was born in Monroe Township, Logan Co., Ohio, December, 1817. His father, Jacob Johnson was born in Monmouth County, N. J., March 15, 1779. His mother, Rachel Green, was born in Bourbon County, Ky, in 1784. His grandfather was Andrew Johnson, who came from Holland before the Revolution, settled in New Jersey, and in 1786 removed with his family to Boone County, Ky. The following year Daniel Boone left that county. Mrs. Johnson, wife of Jacob Johnson, was of English and Welsh descent. Her father, George Green, worked his way across the ocean on a sailing vessel when nineteen years of age. He settled in Bourbon County, Ky, and, in 1811, came to Logan County, Ohio, where he died.
Hosea,, the youngest child, was reared on a farm and given a common school education. He aided his father in clearing the farm, and lived with him until twenty-two years old. On January 2, 1840, he was married to Nancy Rosbrugh, born in Logan County, Ohio, February 11, 1817. Her Parents, Hilkiah and Susan (Deardoff*) Rosbrugh, were natives of Virginia, whence they moved and settled in Logan County, Ohio, near West Liberty, where their daughter Nancy was reared to womanhood. Mrs. Rosbrugh was born May 18, 1780, died May 2, 1851, in Logan County; her husband was born October 30, 1782, died April 17, 1828 in Bedford County, Va. They had eleven children, ten living, viz. Susan, wife of James Morrison; Elizabeth, wife of H. N. Smith; John C.; Sophronia, wife of P. F. Latimer; George F.; M. Micajah; Jane, wife of Milton Davis; Margaret, wife of Milton Lee; Peter F. and Mollie C. Henry G. died at the age of two years.
Hosea Johnson moved to his present farm in 1850 and bought 100 acres. Since then he has added, until now he has 540 acres; the homestead contained 330 acres. He has given 200 acres to his sons, George and Micajah.
Hosea was a Whig, but joined the Republican Party. He cast his first vote for William Henry Harrison.
Contained within the book "History of Hardin County, Vol #2, by Minnie Ichler (Kohler) of Kenton; Published by, The Lewis Publishing Co., Chicago, 1910: (In Part) Hosea -"He was an optimist, having an unusually cheerful disposition; he saw only the good and succeeded in pointing out the blessings of God to others."
"His wife, Nancy * "Rosebrook". The day following, (Hosea's death) the good wife and mother was stricken with paralysis and after nine days passed away to her home in heaven".
*The Surname, Deardoff has been spelled differently through my research. The most common of which were Deardoff, Dierdorff and Deardorff.
