Major Finley Joines (b. May 1834, d. December 22, 1917)

Major Finley Joines (son of Ezekiel Joines and Pheroby Caudill) was born May 1834, and died December 22, 1917 in Alleghany Co., NC. He married Mollie E. Edwards.

Notes for Major Finley Joines:
Major Finley Joines served as a 2nd Lieutenant in Company D, of the
North Carolina Thirty-Third Regiment.(Doc# 155) He was captured at
Gettysburg (Doc# 308) and taken as a Prisoner of War. He was held a t Johnson's
Island near Sandusky, Ohio.

Major Joines was a teacher in Alleghany County and Wilkes County, Nor th
Carolina. He served on the first School Board in Alleghany County.(Do c# 309)

Will in Will Book 2, Page 33 Alleghany County NC, Clerk of Court offi ce.
(Doc# 208) "Will wife (not named) house, property, and stock and mean s to
make unmarried children equal. Two girls Ennis and Minnie to have hom e on the
place. Will lands to A.O. Joines, L.C. Joines, and J.E. Joines thre e boys
can sell land with consent of thier ma. Appoint W.F. Joines and R.H . Joines Ex."

Major Finley Joines' death certificate states that his father was Eze kiel
Joines and his mother was a Caudill.(Doc# 26)

Major is buried at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in the Stratford
Community of Alleghany County, North Carolina.
