This page is dedicated to those interested in the history and genealogy of the Joines / Joynes / Jines Family.

The name Joynes is believed to have originated in Wales or Western England. There are still Joynes / Joines descendants living in this region of England.

The first record of a Joines / Joynes in America is in 1638 when John Joines was listed as a passenger on a ship arriving on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. There is a record of a John Joynes leaving London, in 1635, boarding a ship bound for New England. John was eighteen years old in 1635.

Edmund Joynes lived on the Eastern Shore of Virginia in the late 1600's and early 1700's. Descendants of Edmund still live on the Eastern Shore.

Ezekiel Joines settled in North Carolina in the late 1700's.(We do not know where Ezekiel was born or who his parents were. Most researchers, myself included, do not believe that Ezekiel was born in Scotland. A search of Ancestry.com has revealed that there are thousands of family trees listed on Ancestry.com that contain Ezekiel Joines born 1726. Most of these trees list Ezekiel as being born in Scotland. Some of the trees list his birth place as Midlothian, Edinburgh, Scotland and some list his father as John Joynes. None of these trees show any documentation that Ezekiel was born in Scotland or that his father was John. To my amazement some of them point to this very website and the mention of Wesley Joines' letter about Ezekiel as proof he was born in Scotland. This is not proof, it might be a clue but it's not enough to state for a fact that Ezekiel was born in Scotland. The letter was written 120 years after Ezekiel died and almost all of the evidence points to Ezekiel being born on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, Maryland, or Delaware. The DNA evidence proves that we have an ancestor in common with the Joynes Family from the Eastern Shore. This is not proof of Ezekiel's birth place and as of now, no one has presented any "proof" of where Ezekiel was born. If anyone has any proof please contact me at the address above. As for now please help correct some of the thousands of trees on the web that are incorrectly stating Ezekiel's birth place as Scotland or his father as John.)

The Jabez Joines Family lived in Georgia in the late 1700's. Joseph Joines and Noah Joines moved to Kentucky from Georgia. A branch of this family changed the spelling to Jines. DNA test have proven that the Jines families and the Joines families are related.

Thomas Joines and George Joines lived in Giles County, Tennessee in the early 1800's. Members of this family moved to Texas.

There is a large Joynes family that settled in Australia in the early 1800's.

There are several other Joines/Joynes/Jines families that we are researching. I would be glad to share any information that I have, and I would appreciate any help.

Please check out the new Joines Family photos. If you have photos of Joines Families or interesting Joines places please send them to me. Please include names, dates, and places. I will add them to the web site.

Please check out The Joines/Joynes/Jines DNA Project at the link below. We are getting some very interesting results.
