| ______________________________________________________________ This page is dedicated to those interested in the history and genealogy of the Joines / Joynes / Jines Family. The name Joynes is believed to have originated in Wales or Western England. There are still Joynes / Joines descendants living in this region of England. The first record of a Joines / Joynes in America is in 1638 when John Joines was listed as a passenger on a ship arriving on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. There is a record of a John Joynes leaving London, in 1635, boarding a ship bound for New England. John was eighteen years old in 1635. Edmund Joynes lived on the Eastern Shore of Virginia in the late 1600's and early 1700's. Descendants of Edmund still live on the Eastern Shore. Ezekiel Joines settled in North Carolina. The first record of Ezekiel in North Carolina is about 1778. Documents have been discovered that show that Ezekiel owned land and lived in Sussex County, Delaware prior to moving to Wilkes County. The Jabez Joines Family lived in Georgia in the late 1700's. Joseph Joines and Noah Joines moved to Kentucky from Georgia. A branch of this family changed the spelling to Jines. DNA test have proven that the Jines families and the Joines families are related. Thomas Joines and George Joines lived in Giles County, Tennessee in the early 1800's. Members of this family moved to Texas. There is a large Joynes family that settled in Australia in the early 1800's. There are several other Joines/Joynes/Jines families that we are researching.
