- Mayeux was also spelled Mahieux, Mayheur, Mayeaux, Maieux, Mahyeux
- Listed on the rolls of the ship "Profond" which set sail from LaRochelle, France on
June 10, 1720 and arrived at Biloxi on September 16, 1720. His wife, Marie Cellier
(aka: Sellier) is listed as a "worker's wife".
- Re: "Albert DeCuire arrives in Louisiana" / Randy DeCuir
"Pierre first settled at Arkansas, as documented in the birthplace of his son,
and he apparently lived near the John Law Concession of the Arkansas Post."
- Pierre "Maieux" was a witness to a marriage at St. Louis Church in New Orleans on
3-19-1727 (and is listed as a resident of New Orleans). This place of residency
is confirmed by the birth of his daughter, Geneveive, in New Orleans.
- In 1729, Pierre and his family were living at Natchez where another daughter, Cecile,
was born.
- Re: "Albert DeCuire arrives in Louisiana" / Randy DeCuir
"Pierre Mayeux was one of only two white men spared by the Indians in the famous
Natchez Massacre in Novmeber 1729 which wiped out the French settlement of about
250 settlers. Mayeux was apparently spared because of his occupation as a wagon
driver. He was needed by the Indians to gather the clothing of the massacred
victims and bring it back to them, according to Steve Mayeux, a descendant who
has studied this period of French Colonial history in detail..."
- Settled permanently in Pointe Coupee c1731. Established sizeable plantation &
by 1745 was regarded as one of the wealthiest planters in the area.
