This page is dedicated to two groups of our ancestors. First, to the Gulf Coast colonials who came under less than joyous circumstances. To the Irish whose beautiful green island of clan and rich culture became a place of starvation and oppression under English rule.To the French colonials, forced to emigrate for offenses real and imagined. To the Germans, lured from their war-torn homelands by French government promises of a New World paradise only to find their numbers decimated by plague and poor preparations on the part of John Law's Compagnie des Indies. And to the Acadians, of course, those wandering souls burned out of Nova Scotia and set adrift by British troops. They came, they worked, and they built. Some of the earliest to arrive began clearing farmland in the River Parishes, back before there were slaves or pack animals in the colony.Despite repeated, devastating floods and epidemics with death rates surpassing even Europe's Black Death, they preserved and passed on their sense of family and of fun, that spirit that makes Louisiana culture what it is today. You know what I mean...well, if you're from Louisiana, you do! Second, to our Confederate ancestors. They fought with honor against troops who too often had no respect for civilian status or personal property.Today we call it "war crimes."Without the aid of outside mercenaries, outmanned and outgunned, they fought harder and lasted longer than logic alone would have predicted for the sovereignty of their beloved home states.May the lads in grey never be forgotten.May we pass the truth about them down through the generations. PRIVACY***PRIVACY***PRIVACY***PRIVACY***PRIVACY***PRIVACY*** Too few of us in the genealogy community have gotten the message about protecting the privacy of living individuals. With the information available from many GEDCOMs, such as mother's maiden name, dates, and places, your credit identity is available to anyone.Think about what your credit card company asks for when you call in, then look at the genealogy sites you visit. It is imperative that those of us dedicated to preserving the memories of the ancestors we love also dedicate ourselves to loving and protecting the privacy of the other living descendants. Please check out my second link below, Genealogists for Privacy, for more detailed explanation and to download free programs that will instantly hide the data of all living individuals. I have GenLiving. Here's all you have to do! 1)Download the program from the link given on this page. 2)Click on your GenLiving program. It will ask you the file of origin (let's call it "family") and the name of the new file to create (let's call it "familyclean").Options: whether you want data to appear blank or to say "living individual, details withheld, changing the cut-off date, using first and middle initials for living. 3)Use "family" as your working file.BUT when you want to share info, just repeat step 2 to create a current "familyclean" and use "familyclean" for sharing and posting.
