Individual: Mcashan, Mary
Birth date: Nov 1, 1894
Death date: Oct 1978

Mary Celeste was in the first graduating class of St. Agnes Academy, located on Fannin in Houston. It took in boarders in those days. She spent the weekends with her Aunts who were Mulvihills, sisters of her mother. The Mulvihills lived on Harrisburg Blvd. One of the aunts was married. The aunts' brothers lived in the house as well (5 people in total, according to my mother). According to my mother (Mary Celeste McAshan), the house was a large two story house in a prominent position on Harrisburg Blvd. It was a New Orleans style house divided into two sections separated by a corridor down the middle.
The Mulvihills were apparently in the fine wine and liquor business (As was John T. McLaughlin, according to my mother). There is a story that Johnny Mulvihill was asked to contribute to a stained glass window in Annunciation Catholic Church. He asked that it have the inscription, "Mulvihill Fine Wines and Liquors", and was turned down, upon which he did not contribute to the window.
My mother recounted that the Mulvihill ladies were very frail and genteel. They had a horse and buggy, and when Rice Institute opened, they travelled down for the opening in their horse and buggy, travelling first to Houston from Harrisburg, then down to Rice Institute. It was an all-day journey!
