Descendants of William Jenkins

Generation No. 1

1. WILLIAM1 JENKINS was born 1675, and died August 1720 in Richmond Co., VA. He married ELIZABETH SKELDERMAN 1698 in Old Rappahannock(Richmond) Co. VA.

Notes for W
ILLIAM JENKINS:
William and Elizabeth made their home on the Skelderman Plantation (later known as the Jenkins Plantation) on a bay and a branch of Rappahannock Creek. Neighbors included the families of William Moss, Edmund Crask, John Crask, Henry Haws, and Thomas Grimstone; descendants of which intermarried with the Jenkins family.

The surname Jenkins originated in Wales.

He was of Northern Neck, VA and settled in Richmond County between the Rappahannock and Potomac Rivers. He married Elizabeth, dau of Harman Skelderman and Martha ? ca 1698 according to the Old Rappa. County, Deed Skelderman to Norton, Reel 5, pp. 148,149. An indenture dated 3 Nov 1719 show a deed of gift from Wm. Jenkins, and wife Elizabeth; to Walter Davis, and Martha his wife, their daughter etc. 50 acres of land. (Richmond Co. DB 7, p. 454)

The County Court ordered an appraisal of the Estate of Wm. Jenkins on 3 Aug 1720 and it was returned 7 dec 1720.

Children of Wm. and Elizabeth are John, Mansfield, James, Harman, Martha, Sarah, and Mary.

I do not have any proof of any of Wm. siblings. There is a John Jenkins who came to America from Wales in 1642 and settled in VA. He became a colonel in the State Militia and held several public offices. He later became the Gov. of NC and there is quite an interesting story about him and Culpepper's Revolution.
