The last two or three years of Cassie's life were spent in a nursing home. Her legs weakened and she spent most of her time in a wheel chair. She was a very good natured and loving mother who had a very trying time raising five boys after her husband Carl died in 1927. She died at the age of 96. Cassie and Carl are buried side by side at the Roselawn Cemetery in Monona, WI.

Notes for Carl Theodore Olson:
Carl was confirmed at a Lutheran church in Valders WI in 1894 at age of 16.
I have no information about him from that time until the US Census of 1900. He appears in Fitchburg, Dane Co., married to Cassie Larson. They were living with her parents, Lewis and Lillian Larson and were listed as having been married for 2 years and having one child. Carl's sister Mathilda and her husband Zachary Higbee were also living in Dane Co., at Madison. That probably is the reason Carl came to this area, to find work.

Notes for Edith Helen Coggins:
Resided in Oregon, WI January 1960 at the time of her brother, Glenn Coggins death. Edith Coggins was born in Whitewater, WI. Her father, Charles John
Coggins, came to the United States straight from England. Her mother,
Lucy Higbee, wa Wisconsin native. Edith moved with her parents to
Fitchburg, WI in 1890. There she met Jesse Lee Hall, a young man who worked
for her father. Edith married Jesse in Fitchburg township on February 23, 1909.
Edith is remembered as a very strong-willed person, who didn't take no for
an answer, and never thought anything was necessarily impossible.

Edith did not have a formal education in nursing care of others, but is
remembered as being a fearless energetic person in caring for the sick. It
is said that she went out of her way to drop in to see any sick neighbor,
regardless of their malady. She was also a midwife at local births.
Ruth (Lloyd) Hall has advised us that Edith Coggins was the midwife at
her birth.

Edith offered assistance to infant Martha Hall, daughter of Edith's son
Charles R. Hall, when she was suffering from Whooping Cough. (Whooping
Cough until recently was a killer of babies in America.) She took the baby in
for a while during that crisis. Edith was credited with saving the lives of
Martha and at least on neighbor's ailing infant (the Landmark's). Much later,
Edith also cared for her prematurely arthritic daughter Vernice for a time.

It was Edith who encouraged her son Charles R. Hll to attend college, and she
seems to have been progressive in that regard. Daughter Kate had attended a
seminary college before Charles. Charles let his mother down, however,
and dropped out of college in Chicago after only a semester.

Edith H. Coggins (Hall) is buried in Prairie Mound Cemetery, Oregon, WI.
