Martha, a daughter of Charles Robert Hall and Thelma Esther Hoyt, was born in Brooklyn, WI, During her infancy, she became very seriously ill with whooping cough. At that time, Martha came under the care of her grandmother, Edith Coggins (Hall). For reasons unexplained, Jesse Hall and his wife Edith raised Martha thereafter. But her sisters and brothers never considered Martha to be anything other than one our very own. When the ANCESTORS research project was begun, Martha told us many valuable small anecdotes of the Jesse Lee Hall family.

Martha majored in music education at Milton College, Milton, WI. She was probably the most musically talented of the children of Thelma Esther Hoyt and Charles Robert Hall. She was an accomplished playter of the piano.

Martha married Curtis Sorenson on August 31, 1957, in Oregon, WI. They had 3 sons; Dean, Bryan, and Barton Sorenson. Martha and Curtis lived in the Oregon, WI area for their entire married life. Martha was an attentive mother, devoted to her children. Her memory is beloved to many family members, who remember Martha's knack for smart acts of kindness in little things: it was a treasured kindness in the life of her brother Charles when Martha thought to send him a hometown newspapter subscription when he was surrounded by Viet Cong at an airbase in Vietnam. It took Martha to think of all these things, or understand they were important. No matter how many children a family has, each brought soemthing all their own to the family, and such was Martha's life/ She brightened the family in way she did not understand.

Martha was employed for several years at Wisconsin Physicians Services (WPS), along the Beltline Highway at the southern edge of Madison, WI. Martha died at home in Oregon. She is buried at the Prairie Mound Cemetery in Oregon, WI. Her resting place there is marked by a stone carved to resemble the pianos that she loved.
