The copy of the will that I have is from pages 339 & 340 of "wills"
Halifax County (VA) and this is how it reads: WILLIAM THAXTON 1803,
April 22--Will of William Thaxton. Wife, Lucie. "My daughter, Martha Degraffenreid; to my daughter, Elizabeth Johnston; my daughter, Lucy Overby. "My son, Charles Thaxton; to my son, William Thaxton (land also in Pittsylvania County) my son, Yelverton; my son, Thomas; my daughter

All property and slaves lent to his wife to be equallydivided, at her death, between Elizabeth Johnston, Lucy Overby, Charles Thaxton, William Thaxton, Yelverton Thaxton, Thomas Thaxton and Mary Clay Thaxton. Notes for William Thaxton:
[v10t0296.ftw]
William Thaxton married Lucy Clay, daughter of Charles and Martha (Green) Clay in 1770 in Lunenburg Co. Va. They made their home in Halifax Co., Va. They were the parents of 8 children. Their oldest daughter, Martha, who married Vincent deGraffenreid, is the direct line.
The HISTORY OF HALIFAX COUNTY VIRGINIA lists the last will and testament of William Thaxton 22 Apr 1803.
He gave property to his daughters Martha deGraffenried, Elizabeth Johnson, Lucy Overby, and Mary Clay. Also to his sons, Charles, William, Thomas and Yelverton.
All property and slaves were to be lent to his wife, Lucy(Clay) Thaxton, and at her death to be equally divided between Elizabeth Johnston, Lucy Overby, Charles Thaxton, William thaxton, Yelverton and Thomas Thaxton. Mary Clay, daughter, and his wife, Lucy Thaxtonb, were to be sole execurtors.
Lucy Clay thaxton did not die until 1825 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. She probably moved to Georgia after the death of her husband. Their daughter, Martha(Thaxton)deGraffenreid and her husband, Vincent, lived in Oglethorpe County , GA. for a short time. Lucy Thaxton's will mentions her daughter, Patsy(nickname for Martha) deGraffenreid, and four of Martha's children; Catherine, Polly, Yelverton and Vincent Monroe deGraffenreid. Also mentiones her sons Charles and Thomas Thaxton, and daughters Elizabeth Johnston and Mary Hale.
She gave to her grandchildren James, Elizabeth, William, Richard, Thomas, Charles, Mary and Martha, all children of her son Thomas and his wife Isabelle Thaxton, all the interest in her father, Charles Clay, deceased, estate. Her son, thomas Thaxton was named sol executor.
