Franklin Winfree of DeKalb Co., Tennessee. Benjamin Franklin Winfree was the s/o David
Nicholas Winfree & Achsah Tuck. David Nicholas Winfree was the s/o James Winfree &
Elizabeth Jones. James Winfree was a Revolutionary soldier/patriot and his wife’s father,
Ambrose Jones was a Revolutionary soldier/patriot.

Winfree Record Book
The following is from an old Winfree Record Book obtained from Archie Winfree of
Washington, D.C. in 1964. He said it was obtained from his father, Horace Sullivan
Winfree, s/o Benjamin Franklin Winfree & Judith Robinson, who had received it
from Benjamin’s brother, Allen Carey Winfree. Benjamin Franklin Winfree and Allen
Carey Winfree are sons of, David Nicholas Winfree & Achsah Tuck.
David Nicholas Winfree’s parents were, James Winfree & Elizabeth Jones. James
Winfree was a Revolutionary soldier/patriot and his wife’s father, Ambrose Jones was
a Revolutionary soldier/patriot.
David Nicholas Winfree came to Tennessee from Virginia, sometime before 1840.
Family tradition reports 1818 or 1819. Several Winfree’s show up in the 1840 census of
Tennessee, among them is David and Benjamin Winfree. Benjamin Franklin
Winfree lived in Cove Hollow, DeKalb Co., Tennessee, his house located at 36
degrees 04.43 minutes North Lat., 85 degrees 51.52 minutes West Long. *See 1928
Government Map.
This Winfree Record Book is now in the possession of Clarence
Harold Winfree, s/o Homer Clarence Winfree & Stocia Myrtle
Maddux. Clarence Winfree & his wife, Lela B. Murphy have
done extensive research on the Winfree family and there related
branches.

To all to whom these presents shall come, Greeting.
Know ye, that we, for and in Consideration of the sum of Fifty Shillings for ever hundred
acres hereby granted, paid into our treasury by James Winfree have given and granted,
and by these presents do give and grant unto the said James Winfree, a tract of land,
containing six hundred and forty acres, lying and being in our county of Granville. On
Wolfpit Branch beginning at Wades corner pine in the County line at “A” running said
line West three hundred pole to a red oak sapling at “B” then South three hundred and
eight pole to a white oak on Pools line, then his line East ten pole to a black jack at “L”
then his other line South thirty four pole to a white oak, then East two hundred and ninety
pole to a hicory on Wades line then his line North to the beginning.
As by the plat hereunto annexed doth appear; together will all Woods, Waters, Mines,
Minerals, Hereditaments, and Appurtenances, to the said land belonging or appertaining:
To hold to the said James Winfree, his heirs and assigns, forever. Yielding and paying to
us such sums of money yearly, or otherwise, as our General Assembly from time to time
may direct. Provided always, that the said James Winfree shall cause this Grant to be
registered in the Register’s Office of our said county of Granville within twelve months
from the date hereof, otherwise the same shall be void and of no effect.

In the name of God Amen. I George Taylor of the county of Rutherford and State of Tennessee do
constitute and appoint this to be my last will and testament. I being at this time in a weak law? And
imperfect state of health but of a sound mind and memory, do commit my soul to God who gave it, and my
body to the dust from whence it was taken first after paying just and lawful debts. I leave to my beloved
wife Jeausha her support of the plantation where I now live and then at her death my wife? And to be
equally divided my sons
Viz: William Taylor, Eden Taylor, George Taylor, James Taylor and Leonard Taylor, and my other
property to be sold, after giving my daughter Jane twenty shillings and my daughter Sally one good bed and
furniture; also my son Leonard Taylor one calf he now claims then after the sale of my perishable property
all my children except my daughter Jane Taylor and Sally Taylor to have an equal share of the perishable
property. It is also my will that all continue to have an equal share of the water. I also appoint my Adin
Taylor and my wife Jerrash Taylor my sold executors. In testemony whereof I let my hand and seal this
11th day of July 1827.

David Parish for & in consideration of the Sum of one hundred & six pounds coin
shillings Current Money of the State the Rest of which he doth hereby acknowledge
given granted bargained & sold & by these present doth give grant bargain & sell unto
Mr. Zachariah Denny one Certain tract of land lying in Granville County afores & on the
south side of Nances & the pine log branch on the N. side of the Middle fork of
Beaverdam Creek Containing One hundred twenty five acres & one quarter & bounded
as follows to wit Beginning at a Willow Oak on Nances branch running up the Various
Courses of this branch upon a Rite line 146 pole to a pine at the Mouth of the pine log
branch John Moons corner thence up this branch & the Various Courses thereof upon a
Rite line 94 pole to a pine Abrahams corner thence by his line South 20 Deg. West 67
pole to a Stake his corner of Bank’s Road thence along the road to a dead pine
Mrs.______corner thence by her line N. 72 Deg. West to the head of a Drain as it
meanders on to the beginning to have & to hold the above said land & premises together
with all & Singular this Appurtenances thereunto belonging & I David Parish for my self
my heirs Ex.& Admin. shall & will Warrant & forever defend the above mentioned land
& premises unto Mr. Zachariah Denny his heirs Ex. Admin. or assigns In Witness
