| My father Jack Jones spent many years patiently researching and tracking down every little clue and many hundreds of tireless hours as a committed volunteer and committee member for the Morpeth museum and other community organisations of Morpeth. (He has also recently been involved with the history society of Wallsend.) I'd like to thank him for that since without his enormous efforts I'd still have no clue where my family came from or the significant role this town played in the history of the Hunter Valley. As a kid I didn't really have much of a clue who my relatives were. Sure I knew the faces and names of the people that used to come round to Nan's place every Sunday but I never really understood who were my cousins, aunts, uncles etc. The main reason I guess is that I don't have any true first cousins, aunts or uncles (mum is an only child and dad the only child of his father). ***** Enough of that and onto the business of genealogy ***** In particluar I am interested in Thomas Jones (1823? - 1889). My grandfather's grandfather was born about 1823 and is said to have been born/lived in or around Bristol, Gloucestershire, England. We think he came to Australia in about 1856 where he lived for a few years in East Maitland, NSW then lived the rest of his life in Morpeth, NSW. He died in 1889. He was a tailor by trade but was Mayor of Morpeth in 1880 and an alderman in 1881. I am a direct male line descendent of his first wife Recarda Cobcroft. He later married Rebecca Chambers of Hinton, NSW. Any information on these or other members of my family would be greatly appreciated. I am more than happy to share any information I have (or to correct any mistakes you notice). Please feel free to browse or use for your own investigations. Please be aware that I collected very little of this information myself. The great bulk of it ended up on my database from other people's research. There is a selection of trees from my own database below, a report or two and some pictures. There are also one or two links to other branches of the family.
