Notes for William Hogan: William Hogan wrote splendid memoirs covering part of his early life and seven years of his life as a sailor in the merchant navy. Katie has a copy.
In the memoirs, he also mentions a cousin named John Twyford, "caption of the forecastle" on HMS Sampson during 1855. This may be a link to other relatives in Ireland, and also help us find out more about the family. The text clearly mentions that he last saw this John Twyford in Ballylongford, and this implies that he was a "cousin" via the family of William Hogan's mother!!!
The above means that William Hogan's mother's maiden name could have been Twyford and that the records of Ballylongford may yield more information!!!
